REAL WEDDING

Ellen & Dirk

The Love Story of
Ellen & Dirk

Ellen & Dirk  got married on July 9, 2022. They had a wonderful, intimate and special day. Curious about this couple’s meeting, choosing Ellen’s dream dress and the course of their special day? Then keep on reading…

How they met – Village Fair Love

Ellen and Dirk met in 2012 at the Wiejese Diekdaegen, a local village festival in Wijhe. They chatted a lot and the next day Dirk came already to Ellen’s parents’ house to pick her up. It felt immediately familiar and fun.
28 May 2021 Dirk asked Ellen to marry him in, according to Ellen, the most romantic way ever!

“He went by my father first, to ask for my hand. I do like traditions. He made me think I had won a beauty day at a local hairdresser. I was pampered all day with hair and makeup, a lunch, new clothes and then a photo shoot on the Ijssel river. And yes, here he went on his knees! Never expected and oh, what a super surprise. As a little girl I already dreamed of getting married. This guy I will never let go!”

An Unexpected wedding dress

On September 11, 2021, Ellen found her dream dress in our Brandstore. Adviser Hilda helped her and Ellen soon felt in love with an unexpected wedding dress..

After the proposal I started googling for wedding dresses the next day! I dreamed of this moment as a little girl. I used to want a princess dress, but this had changed over the years. Now I wanted a dress that fit nicely at the top and flared slightly at the bottom, without sleeves, not strapless, but with nice straps over the shoulder.

There was a fashion show on July 4, 2022 at Très Chic, to show the new collection, so I went there with my mother. It was an amazing day and the staff was so friendly. Then I knew, here I’m going to find my dress! My mom took a picture of a huge princess dress, even though I new, I did not want to wear one anymore.

September 11, I went dress hunting with my mom, my sister (and maid of honor), and two friends. I tried on many different silhouettes, and how we laughed about it. One made me look much bigger, in the other I had no butt and so on. Hilarious. The second dress was a contender for me. But my mom came with the idea to put on the princess dress.I was already thinking ‘Oh no, mom’. Hilda was zipping me up and I saw myself in this huge princess dress with huge train and thought, “WOW! I walked into the room and none of the entourage said anything… Secretly I knew this is the one, but dared not choose it. Okay, let’s put the second dress on again. Yes, this was beautiful, but it did not have the WOW effect.

When I put the princess dress back on, I saw myself in the mirror and … yes … there were the tears of happiness! I thought this only happened on TV! This was it! I had never felt so beautiful and feminine. What a dress can do to you. And Hilda was so sweet and said: “Not everyone can wear this dress, but you can! What a beautiful bride” My entourage also had to cry. The choice was made, what a wonderful and beautiful day!

The Big Day

Dirk slept at home with their 3 children and his best man Rob the night before the big day. Ellen slept at her parents’ house. In the morning at Ellen’s house there were many people. Sisters, her brother, girlfriends and parents. Later the kids too. Here, they did the bride and her entourages make-up & hair.

The First Look

At 13 pm the day-guests went to the location by bus and were welcomed by Dirk and his best man with a cup of coffee. Then Dirk went with the guests to the place of the ceremony, in suspense waiting for Ellen and her father. This would be the first moment that Dirk would see Ellen and vice versa.

“Ooooh, I was so nervous! Dirk already got emotional by looking at our children throwing the rose petals. When I saw Dirk, I immediately fell in love with him for the 2nd time. He looked so sexy! And the ceremony was beautifully intimate and personal. Our Extraordinary Registrar is our friend Anneloes, and that made it extra special.”

Dinner

“After the ceremony, the five of us (our little family) took pictures. Because our children finaly had no spots or dirt on their clothes, like normally.  Then on to toasts and congratulations. My father gave a fantastic speech. I felt like my dad’s little girl again. Wonderful it was. The afternoon passed quietly and relaxed.

We had arranged a bouncy castle for the kids, and instead of a wedding cake, we had chosen a sweet table, so the kids could also grab what they wanted. In between we took some photos with our parents, and yes… I fell over my incredible train! (I do fall/stumble often). We could not stop laughing, because it was really typical of us!

Dinner was provided by Catering by Erwin. We wanted large cuts of meat and fish. Something for everyone. There was delicious barbecuing on a fire bowl and an some sort of oven.We had no table setting, because our theme was Festival Chic. Just nice, loose and relaxed. Everyone could grab what they want, which made the atmosphere relaxed. The afternoon went by so quickly, it was a wonderful day!”

Evening Party

“In the evening, the party started at 8:30 pm. We had rehearsed an opening dance. First a little shuffling and then loose to different songs. We ended the dance with a typical Dutch party song. That way everyone got on the dance floor. We had arranged a photobooth in the shape of a caravan. This turned out to be a fantastic success! Everyone took photos, which we received digitally the next morning. We had a good laugh about it.

At night there was a French fry stand ready and at the end, the majority of the guests could return home by bus. We had a wonderful night’s sleep in the Van der Valk hotel in Zwolle, in a room that was far too big and with a breakfast that was far too elaborate. Delicious! Home again around 12 o’clock, back to our children.”

“Our wedding was everything we could have wished for. No corona rules, just an old fashioned fun day and party. Everyone enjoyed themselves. This has been one to remember!”
